What is "Dramatic Play"?

Dramatic Play for toddlers is a form of play where toddlers engage in taking roles where they use their imagination in engaging and exploring different roles such as playing scenarios where they are parents, doctors, dentists, cashier or any profession. They use props, costumes and their imagination to play out scenarios where they develop situations where they can express themselves and learn about the world.


What are its benefits?

Having toddlers engage in Dramatic Play will allow them to use their imagination & express their feelings as they play out different scenarios. This will help them develop their creativity, social & emotional intelligence, language skills & cognitive abilities.


How to set up Dramatic Play for Toddlers?

There is no wrong or right way to set up your area for Dramatic Play,

Some set ups can seem intimidating for your first time setting up, so it's important to remember to have fun in the process of setting up as an adult as well.

Below you will find some key essentials to make your area engageable for your toddler.


Choose a space. it does not have to be a big space, a table will be sufficient. As long as it is a designated space for this précise activity.


Pick a theme. For example, Doctor, Dentist, Coffee Shop, Mail Man, any profession or job.

Set up props that have to do with that theme.


Set up props. This is the most important part of the set up. Its important that the props go with the theme. If your dramatic theme is a baking station or a kitchen, here you can use some of your own things you have around in the kitchen like wooden spoons and bowls. Child safe, of course! You don't always have to go buy items for Dramatic Play, most of the time you can do it with the items that you have around your house.
